Cafe Rouge
Had a fantastic meal with my family, brilliant atmosphere and child friendly providing high chairs and healthy childrens options. My Bavette steak was great with really good wine (melot) to go with it. The staff were very attentive particularly with the kids. Highly recomended.

The Merchants of Colegate
I took my wife for the special \"Valentines Meal\" and Special it was. The food superb, staff very good and knowlegable. All in all a great night. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews prior to booking, but my experience was memorable for the right reasons. We can\'t wait to return. Pricey? maybe, but it was certainly twice as good as lots of the \"Pub/Restaurants\" Iv\'e been going to who charge £25-£30 per head, so maybe those places are overcharging?

The Merchants of Colegate
Having been to the Merchants of Colegate before for a special occasion and having had a lovely meal, we expected more of the same standard. Not so this time. Our bottle of champagne on arrival was poured (and spilt) by someone obviously not expereienced in pouring champagne. We have a very good starter but the steaks were terrible. My partner's 'well done' steak was rare. My medium rare had a huge piece of gristle on it. We returned both steaks and were given replacements which had been cut up into small chunks!! The service was hit and miss. We were not offered any bread or olives despite their being on the menu. We barely had time to knock back the amuse bouche before the steaks were brought. We gave up on having desert and by that time and just wanted to leave. I wrote a very polite letter to the owner (who wasn't there that night) detailing what had happened. I never received any acknowledgement whatsoever. A restaurant to avoid from now onl

The Wig & Pen
We had a wonderful meal on a Friday night in December, the meal was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and were very friendly. We will definitely be back again!

The Merchants of Colegate
me and my partner recently dined there on a friday night. disappointing - only 2 other tables of 2 and a larger table of 8, i was really surprised to see the place so dead. despite the few tables in, the staff seemed really flustered but were friendly when they did check on us. the food was ok, not as good as i'd have expected and the atmosphere was seriously lacking. only average.
