User reviews of The Merchants of Colegate |

The merchants of Colegate are a fine dining restaurant with an a la carte evening menu and a varied lunch menu.
Set inside this beautiful building the decor is fresh and cosy with a 60 seat restaurant and a separate bar area. The kitchen is open plan with a big glass wall so you can watch your food being prepared by the very skilled chefs. The restaurant also boasts home to some fine artwork many of which is the work of Jack vettrianno, as well as live jazz piano played on most Thursday and Friday evenings.
The attentive service and attention to detail in all aspects of this restaurant conclude to a very friendly enjoyable evening with wine and food to please all taste buds!

The office booked our Christmas Lunch here - what a joke it was. If anyone thinks that paying £43 a head for a pretentious, below average meal, then this is definitely the place to be.
The staff mucked up our starter and dessert orders, that were placed WEEKS in advance. The overall costs spiralled out of control as they offered us champagne at the door without telling us that this was not included in the overall cost.
Never again. |

I will second what the last person wrote. Very disappointing experience, we all felt deceived by the \"champagne reception\" that turned out to be £7.95 per glass. Never again. |

Yes i believe the overall operation is shoddy to say the least . the owner is a wanna be gordon ramsey mixed with tony montanna ethics. The food is, i must say wonderfull, it is just the attitude of the owner towards his staff is dreadful. this put me and my partner on edge and made us feel uncomfortable. will not be dining here again |

Just a short note to say thank you to the team at Merchants of Colegate for a wonderful evening, the food, wine & service were all fine. It was nice to see a large varity of dishes on offer at different price levels. Definitely will be back!

me and my partner recently dined there on a friday night. disappointing - only 2 other tables of 2 and a larger table of 8, i was really surprised to see the place so dead. despite the few tables in, the staff seemed really flustered but were friendly when they did check on us. the food was ok, not as good as i'd have expected and the atmosphere was seriously lacking. only average. |
